Tuticorin police nabbed a fraudster, who used a fake identity of an IAS officer and swindled money from people after falsely promising them admission to medical colleges.
Superintendent of Police, M. Durai, told The Hindu on Sunday that the fraudster N. Senthil (30) of Vellalar Street, Sholavandhan in Madurai, was a veterinary doctor by profession in 2000 batch and officially registered to practise since 2008.
Six persons claimed they had given more than a lakh each. He was held in Madurai during 2010 on a charge of cheating a person with a promise to fetch him a government job after extracting a sum of Rs. 5 lakh. Since he became notorious in Madurai, he settled down at Krishnarajapuram in Tuticorin to hoodwink job seekers.
When contacted, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tuticorin Town, M.X.F. Besky, said the police tracked down his identity at a luxury hotel in Tuticorin on Saturday evening, when he was hosting his birthday party to those who had been deceived. A sum of Rs.4 lakh was recovered from him. Twenty three persons from various places attended the party.
On Saturday, he collected Rs.17 lakh each from two persons — K. Rajapandi (52), Village Administrative Officer, Vaipar, and S. Anandaraj (59) of Vembar — on a promise of getting medical seats for their daughters, the police official said.
Based on their complaints, Tuticorin north police filed a case. Investigations are under way.
